Consumer Caucus

The Northern Regional Consumer Caucus Meeting

The Consumer Caucus enables people with the experience of mental illness to inform government, funders, planners and providers on issues and developments that may effect their ability to live well. It is primarily attended by people in the greater Auckland metropolitan area.

The meetings allow us to contribute to improvements in mental health services, discuss wider issues, stay informed on upcoming opportunities for learning, networking and training. We gain support and knowledge from the collective wisdom and inspiration from our contemporaries achievements.

The Caucus helps us to achieve our potential as defined in Our Lives in 2014

People with the experience of mental illness have defined personal power as meaning that we lead our own recovery by:

  • Experiencing hope and optimism
  • Making sense of our experience
  • Accessing and using information
  • Managing our mental illness
  • Knowing how to get the best service
  • Advocating for our rights and inclusion at all life stages
  • Belonging to the culture and lifestyle we identify with
  • Fulfilling our goals, roles and responsibilities
  • Maintaining our personal relationships
  • contributing to healthy whanau

The issues raised at Caucus meetings can be consistently fed back through decision making avenues at a national, regional and local level.

This meeting is a networking opportunity and all topics of discussion are welcomed. Speakers often come to the Caucus to explain current mental health projects and opportunities.

Membership of the Consumer Caucus is open to all people who identify with the life changing experience of mental illness and wish to influence positive outcomes.

The caucus meets on the 3 rd Thursday of the month from 1.30 – 3.30 pm. The venue occasionally changes so call the network to find out where it is and let them know if you need any asssitance with transport.
