  • include provider and community representatives on key DHB Board committees and management groups
  • consult with affected communities and providers in the context of considering significant service change
  • work with local and national government agencies to co-ordinate strategies in a complementary manner
  • engage communities in determining the definition of partnership
  • strengthen our existing partnerships with community groups & providers

The people served by Counties Manukau DHB

The population of Counties Manukau DHB includes the territorial local authorities of Franklin, Papakura and Manukau.

For the year 2003 the projected Counties Manukau population is 415,000 (or 428,000 including Otahuhu, part of ADHB that is in the catchment area for the CMDHB provider arm).

Counties Manukau has been and remains one of the fastest growing areas in New Zealand. It is a diverse population with complex health needs and service requirements.
Key features of the Counties Manukau DHB population are:

  • a high proportion of Maori
  • a high proportion of Pacific people
  • a high proportion of Asian people
  • the relative youthfulness of these populations, and the population as a whole
  • the fast growth of this population
  • the high proportion of the population who are deprived in socio-economic terms.

Counties Manukau Mental Health and Addiction Network Committee

Purpose:

The Counties Manukau Mental Health and Addiction Network Committee exists to be the driving force that will improve the mental health of its communities.

The Network Committee will seek participation from, and be accountable to, the communities of Counties Manukau.

The Network Committee will recognise and identify the diverse and changing needs of the communities in order to influence planning, funding, and provision of both Mental Health/ Addiction services and those other agencies that significantly affect the mental health of the communities it serves.

Core Principles of the Counties Manukau Mental Health and Addiction Network Committee are:

  • We live the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and acknowledge Mana Whenua and Tangata Whenua of this rohe
  • We focus on improving consumer wellness
  • We recognise the vital interrelationships between consumer, whanau and community
