There are a variety of training options to equip people with the skills and confidence to help others quit smoking.

E-learning Smoking Cessation Module
What: An e-learning module developed by the Ministry of Health. Should be completed by all working in the health field
Duration: Approximately 30 minutes to complete
Outcome: All with grasp the ABC approach to smokefree support and gain an understanding of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Registered health professionals will become Quit Card Providers
Cost: Free
Those interested in providing more comprehensive support will benefit from training with the Heart Foundation, Pacific Heartbeat, or Nga Kete Hauora. Training is also available via the STEPS programme for individuals interested in providing smoking cessation training themselves.
Heart Foundation
What: A course for healthcare workers run by a team at the Heart Foundation
Duration: one or two day courses available
Outcome: All participants will become Quit Card Providers
Cost: Free
Pacific Heartbeat
What: A course for anyone (healthcare workers or community members) with a strong emphasis on working with Pacific people. Run by the Pacific Heartbeat team of the Heart Foundation.
Duration: One day theory plus one day follow up with support from trainers
Outcome: All participants will become Quit Card Providers

Counties Manukau DHB
What: A course for healthcare workers working within the CMDHB region run by the Smokefree Team at Middlemore Hospital
Duration: 2 hours
Outcome: Outcome: All with grasp the ABC approach to smokefree support and gain an understanding of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Registered health professionals will become Quit Card Providers

Nga Kete Hauora
What: Te Hotu Manawa Maori provides this training programme for diverse groups, especially those working with Maori.
Duration:Involves a face to face hui, and a five module e-programme
Outcome: All participants will become Quit Card Providers
